Phase One: Get rid of that carpet!

Oh, we have carpet.

Starting out this morning, our carpet situation looked like this: Carpet in our bedroom, carpet in the guest bedroom, carpet in the third bedroom, carpet in the hallway, carpet in the dining room and kitchen, carpet in the bathrooms (Yes, we know. *shudder*)…

Heck, it’s easier for me to tell you what wasn’t carpeted: A fourth bedroom in the basement and the unfinished side of the basement. Oh, and the garage. No carpet in the garage (thank goodness).

As you might guess, deciding the first phase of our home makeover was simple: Get rid of that carpet!

We started early this morning, after Freddy dragged me out of bed at 7:30. I was delirious this morning. Thank goodness he made coffee before waking me up; I love that he knows me so well.

We went through our list of things to bring from the apartment and made a pit stop at Lowe’s before arriving at our casa at 9am. We let Winston run around a bit and I snapped some pictures before getting started.

We got our patio set off of Craigslist a few weeks ago and it is just what I wanted to add some curb appeal until my parents can get here and help out with the gardening. We’ve also got some unique fixtures that I thought you might like to see before we start removing them. (Look for that rolling-pin light fixture in a future blog post; I’ve got big dreams for that gem!)

We really only worked for about 2 1/2 – 3 hours before we had to call it quits for Freddy to get to work and me to make a wedding dress shop date with my girlfriend (Congrats on finding your dress so quickly, Lina!) but we got a ton done! The carpet was ancient and came up like notebook paper off a spiral ring – so easy!

I’ll save my fingers and let the pictures do the talking:

Guest Bedroom:

Our Bedroom:

3rd Bedroom:

The Hallway:

Upstairs Full (Blue) Bath:

We also took off the door closing off the bedrooms from the rest of the house. Much better!

Final results of day one? A SUCCESS!
